The site has historical significance, with the Bassick Casters building the site of some of the earliest mass-produced commercial music recordings. Also, according to the city, “it was on this site that Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone, developed the prototype for the movie projector after receiving financing from famed Bridgeport Mayor and entrepreneur P.T. Barnum.”
